This picture of a smallmouth bass was taken in June of 1998.
The fish have been
in the pond for about 1 3/4 years now. This fish is about seven
inches long, healthy
and strong. We know they're strong from catching and releasing
them with a fly
rod and barbless flies. We only caught enough to evaluate their
health.
Like about fifty. :-)
At this point we are starting to supplement their food supply with fathead
minnows.
We have a small pond of about a tenth of an acre or so located in another
field. We
are using it to grow the fathead minnows. The pond with the smallmouth
bass was
also stocked with fathead minnows a while back. Keeping the food
supply
at a maximum will turn out to be our biggest obstacle.
